NASA Federal Shared Branch FAQs

What is a shared branch?

A shared branch is a credit union location that is part of a national network of linked or shared facilities. Members of participating credit unions may conduct business at any of the shared facilities as though they were at their home credit union. Shared branches and ATMs through CO-OP provide added convenience, allowing you to access your account at many more locations nationwide.

What can I do at a shared branch?

You can make deposits, withdrawals and loan payments. Additionally, most locations will also let you make transfers between cross-accounts. At some shared branch locations you can purchase Money Orders, Cashier's Checks, and Official Checks. See our Schedule of Fees for pricing.

Once inside the shared branch, where do I go to process my transaction?

Inside most credit unions, you will proceed to the teller window or stand. Some locations may have a specific “Shared Branch” area, window, or stand to serve you. If you're unsure, check with a Member Service Representative.

How do I access my account?

First, contact us at 1-888-NASA-FCU (627-2328) and request shared branch access where you will be conducting business. Next, you will need to provide the shared branch with the following:

  1. Name of your Credit Union (NASA Federal Credit Union)
  2. Your Account Number
  3. A current, unexpired valid U.S. Government issued picture identification with signature such as:

- State issued Driver's License or Identification card
- U.S. Passport
- City, State, County or Federal I.D. card or badge
- U.S. Armed Forces Identification card or a Smart Identification card without signature
- Resident Alien card issued by the INS

Please note: all transactions require identification.

Do I need to know my account number?

Yes, NASA Federal members must present their account number(s) to the teller for each transaction.

Are there any cash withdrawal limits?

Each shared branch is different and may impose daily cash withdrawal limits. Please contact the shared branch you intend to visit prior to arriving for their policy.

Is there a hold on checks I deposit at a shared branch?

The funds you deposit at a shared branch are subject to the same hold policy as those deposited at a NASA Federal branch. Please refer to our Funds Availability Policy for additional details.

Can I use an ATM at a shared branch free-of-charge?

Yes, there is no charge for transactions at CO-OP ATMs.

How will my privacy be protected when I use a shared branch?

Yes, your privacy is always a primary concern and is protected when using a shared branch.

How do I place a stop payment on a check I receive at a shared branch location?

If you need to place a stop payment on a check (Money Order, Cashier’s Check or Official Check) that was issued at a shared branch, you must contact the location where you obtained the check. You may be required to complete an indemnity agreement.

Does my membership at NASA Federal Credit Union change if I use a shared branch for my transactions?

No, your membership and accounts remain at NASA Federal Credit Union. The shared branching service is offered to increase access and convenience for our members nationwide.
